Dear CEE Class of 2027,

Congratulations on your admission to UC Berkeley! We, the students of the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) department, welcome you to one of the finest engineering institutions in the world. It is our honor to have you join and grow with us over the next four years.

As we begin a new year, I am filled with optimism for what lies ahead. I encourage you to take advantage of all that UC Berkeley has to offer. Cal ASCE’s mission has always been to provide a community where CEE students can thrive academically, professionally, and socially. Delve into your passion by joining one of our eight competition teams. Engage with industry by attending our career fair. Give back to the community by joining our philanthropy committee. Our promise to you is to be there for you every step of the way.

In addition, I encourage you to reflect deeply on your role as a Civil and Environmental Engineer in society. Our world faces many great challenges, and it is a privilege to have the opportunity to create meaningful and lasting solutions. How will you make your mark? As the Doctrine of the Mean says, I hope you will use this time at Cal to study extensively, inquire prudently, think carefully, distinguish clearly, and practice earnestly.

Again, we are so excited to welcome you to Cal as you begin your CEE journey. Above all, remember to make the most of every moment. Congratulations again and Go Bears!

ASCE President 2023-2024,

Ivan Yan
